A Checklist for Ramadhan 3

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
In the Name of Allah,
the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Tharaweeh

Another Important feature of the month of
Ramadhan is Tharaweeh. It is a special salah
consisting of 20 rakaats which is performed
immediately after the Isha salah.

It is recommended to perform Tharaweeh on
each night of Ramadhan, which is a group salah
and its also correct if prayed alone.
The time for tharaweeh is between Isha  and
dawn but performed before Witr.

Abu Sa'eed Al- Khudri رضى الله عنه narrates that
Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said : ''When the first
night of Ramadhan dawns (comes), the doors of
the skies are opened, and none of its doors are
then closed until the last night of Ramadhan. No
mu'min servant (of Allah) performs salaah during
its night (any night of Ramadhan), but Allah will
record for him one thousand five hundred hasanah
(rewards) for every sajdah that he makes. And Allah
will build a home for him in Jannah made out of red
ruby, which will have sixty thousand doors, each of
its doors having (interlinked to, leading to) a palace
made out of gold, ornamented (beautified and deco-
rated) with rubies. Thus, when he (the mu'min) fasts
on the first day of Ramadhan, all his past sins are par-
doned, and seventy thousand malaaika make istighfar
for him, daily, from the time of the Fajr salaah, until
the sun sets. And for every sajdah that he makes du-
ring Ramadhan, either by day or by night, there will
be for him a tree, (in Jannah, so huge that) a person
on horseback will ride in its shade for five hundred
years.''                             (Bailhaqi & Targheeb)

Witr

Ali رضى الله عنه said : Witr (odd) prayer is not
compulsory like the prescribed (fardh) because
the order about fardh (compulsory) prayers is
quite clear and definite and the witr are not like
that but the Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم offered
witr regularly and said : 'Allah is one and loves
witr. Therefore O' people who believe in Quran
offer witr prayers.
                          (Adu Dawood & Tirmizi)

Abdullah Bin Umar رضى الله عنهما says that
Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said : make your
last voluntary prayer of night as witr (that is)
offer your witr after Tahajjud prayer.
                             (Bukhari & Muslim)

Qur'an

InshaAllah try to read as much Qur'an as possible,
since this month is also known as the month of the
Qur'an, because the first ayats were revealed in this
month. The Sahabah Ikram used to compete with
one another in reciting the Qur'an during this month.
So set a time table for yourself to organize your day
and complete a fixed number of juz everyday.

Jibreel عليه وسلم used to meet Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم
every year during the month of Ramadhan until it
finishes thus Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم used to
present the Qur'an on him.
                                     (Bukhari & Muslim)

Abdullah bin Ammar رضى الله عنهما states that
Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said : 'The fast and
the Qur'an will both plead on behalf of the bonds-
men who keeps fast in the day and recites or listens
attentivenly to the recitation of the Qur'an at night
standing in the presence of Allah (in Tharaweeh).
The fast will say ''O my Lord, I had held him back
from food, drink and sexual gratification, accept
my intercession for him today and treat him with
mercy and forgiveness.
The Qur'an will say, ''I had held him back from
taking rest and sleep at night, O my Lord, accept
my intercession for him today and treat him with
mercy and forgiveness.'' The intercession of both
the fast and Qur'an will be accepted and he will
be treated with exceptional kindness.''
